In an education career spanning more than 25 years, I have worked with thousands of students going through the college search, application, and selection process. I have worked as a school counselor and administrator in two wonderful New Jersey districts.
I was one of the state’s first counselors to integrate Naviance into the schools back when it was known as TCCI (The College Counselor on the Internet). I am also fortunate to have worked on the "other side of the desk” as a college admissions officer and academic advisor at Adelphi University and New York University respectively.
I have presented at conferences at the local, state, and national level including but not limited to presentations at the College Board Regional Forum (Philadelphia) and multiple times at the National Association of College Admissions Counseling annual conference (Seattle, Milwaukee, and Pittsburgh). My presentations have centered on such topics as college admissions myths, the portrayal of college admissions in mass media, issues in selective college admissions, research-based college admissions, and legal issues in college admissions. I have visited numerous college campuses during my career.
Throughout my career I have been quoted about college admissions in articles that have appeared in The New York Times, and The New Jersey Star Ledger. I have also received awards for my service from the New Jersey Association of College Admissions Counseling.
Over the course of my career, I have successfully mentored and supervised many graduate school students who have subsequently gone on to successful careers in school counseling. I have also been a guest lecturer in college counseling at Caldwell University. I consider myself a lifelong student and a self-proclaimed college admissions junkie. I realize there is always more to learn, whether it be college admissions news, trends in secondary education, or what’s happening in higher education.
I am presently working on two articles for publication, “Beyond the Obvious: College Admissions Advice for Parents That is New and Thought Provoking” and “The Trillion Dollar Question: Are College Counselors Blameless for the Student Loan Crisis?”
I work full-time as a school counselor in a wonderful New Jersey school district and live in Union County, New Jersey. I am the proud father of two terrific boys, Jackson and Ryder.
